ControlAg Farm Automation
Cattle waiting behind an UpGate electric fence gateway

Practical answers before you automate a gateway

Every answer is open below. Start with the questions that matter on a working dairy or cattle farm.

UpGate mounted beside a working farm gateway

UpGate automates electric-fence gateways for dairy and cattle farms.

ControlAg’s patented system uses solar power and remote control to lift 1 to 4 electrified bungy cords overhead.

How does an UpGate® compare with a cattle grid?

A cattle grid serves vehicles, while cattle still need a separate gate. UpGate lets vehicles and cattle use the same gateway, and two units can create a 15 metre opening for $5,800 excluding GST.

How does an UpGate® compare with a solar swing gate?

Solar swing gates need room to sweep and suit farm entrances. UpGate lifts cords overhead, suits internal cattle gateways, and stays open until you close it.

How many UpGate®s can one remote control operate?

One 8-button remote can activate unlimited UpGates, and each unit stores up to 32 remotes. The stated remote range is up to 100 metres.

What happens when it gets covered in mud? Will it jam?

The runner wheels sit inside the track with clearance around them. A dairy-farm unit completed 2,000 operations over more than 18 months without jamming.

How does the UpGate® work?

A DC electric motor drives a timing belt in one continuous loop. A solar panel and battery power it, and a handheld remote activates it. It connects to your existing electric fence system, which electrifies the bungy cords when the gateway is closed.

Can you operate it without the remote control?

Yes. There is a button on the outside of the UpGate, so you can open the gateway even when you do not have a remote with you.

What if a vehicle is too tall to fit underneath?

Open the bungy gate by hand with the handle, the same way you would with any bungy cord gate.

What warranty does the UpGate® include?

UpGate carries a 24 month parts-only warranty for defects in materials and workmanship when installed and maintained to the manual. Labour, batteries, misuse, weather damage and unauthorised changes are excluded.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. UpGate is designed for DIY installation. It is solar powered and mounts to suitable posts with coach screws, and a post mount template marks the holes for you.
